Textiles of Burma. This is a woman's wrap around skirt of the Southern Jingpho tribal group. Cm 147x85. This group, also called Chingpaw, lives mainly in Northern Burma, Kachin state and Sagaing area. They belong to the Tibeto-Burman, or Baric language group.
They are one of the numerous highland peoples of Burma.
One could write for hours about this fascinating tribe......if you are interested i suggest the book of Michael c. Howard: "Textiles of the highland peoples of Burma". White Lotus. Bangkok.
First half 20th century. Beautiful, cheerful, interesting.
